Despite a student-run Facebook campaign in favor of hanging the NFL’s star’s jersey, Newport News Public Schools in Virginia opted not to display Vick’s jersey in his former high school.
“It is the final decision,” spokeswoman Michelle Price told the Virginian-Pilot newspaper. “The school administrators just decided that they are not going to take action on the students’ request.”
The spokeswoman says that administrators are worried that displaying Vic’s jersey could cause vandalism or theft, and she doubts the principal is willing to reconsider the decision.
Vick was Warwick High’s star quarterback in the late ’90s, but after his 2007 felony conviction on charges relating to a dog-fighting, the school took his jersey down. He has since returned to the NFL as a quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Is it still too soon to support Vick again?
